Colleges in Classrooms

Bring your alma mater to the desert.

Motivate a youngster to become a Buckeye...
or a Cardinal... or a Sun Devil.... or a Hoya...
Part of the No Excuses University's nationwide project to create college-ready high school seniors, every teacher at Prince Elementary and Amphi Middle Schools in Tucson, Arizona has adopted a university.  Through the use of the powerful imagery of collegiate logos, calendars, stickers, maps, sports schedules and the like, students from kindergarten through eighth grade are surrounded by the highest of expectations  Not all of them may choose to attend college, but all of them will be ready, willing and able to accept that, or any other challenge, at the end of 12th grade.

You know you think it's a great idea... you just don't know how to get involved..... right?
GRIN makes it easy to help

The teachers are looking for anything that has the school's identity upon it....
both gently used and brand new items are gratefully appreciated.

Classroom decorations and small (or large!) prizes are needed.
Nothing is too small - a pen, a notebook, a lanyard, a sticker, the football schedule, a subscription to the college paper - the staff will adorn their walls and create a No Excuses/We Are College-Bound experience with your help.

All donations should be sent to
TUCSON  AZ  85705

If you'd like to be more personally involved with the classroom, there are opportunities for that, as well
Pen-pals, question answering, long-distance puzzle solving.... if you can imagine it we can make it happen.
Contact suzi@grandparentsinresidence and we'll make a plan.

If you'd like a tax receipt, please be sure to include a mailing address in the package.
Don't see your alma mater? Why not choose the school in your town?  Still don't have a way to help? Donate to GRIN/Colleges in Classrooms.  Your donation will be used to purchase powerful imagery for a grade or college of your choice.

I want to let you know what a hit the Cornell blanket has been in my classroom. It sits on the corner of the special student desk and is used by almost every student who is honored this week with that seat. Many wear it around their shoulders in our chilly classroom, and some just cuddle the wad in their lap while they do their homework. I would have never guessed it would go to such immediate, special use.
